Swarm Group is working with Gurney Reeve in their search for a Level 2 General Welder Apprentice. This is an exciting chance to become highly skilled in welding whilst working within a successful team.

Gurney Reeve & Co specialises in the concept design of sweeping and material handling attachments and its products are exported to many corners of the world. Prominent areas for their products are agriculture, construction, waste recycling and the leisure industry. In addition, Gurney Reeve’s sweeping equipment has proven to be very successful at many airports throughout the UK and further afield.

Responsibilities and Duties

• General workshop practices
• Sheet metal fabrication
• Use of a wide range of welding techniques (TIG and MIG)
• Always adhere to all Health and Safety standards
• Prepare, check, and protect materials and work area ready for welding
• Design, fabricate, join, fit, and repair equipment, fixtures, and various types of metal objects and structures
• Operate power saws, grinders, and a variety of welding equipment and hand tools
• Learn to read, understand, and work with detailed engineering drawings

Working Week

Working hours will be from 7:30am to 4pm, Monday to Thursday, 39 hours per week. Friday working hours will be from 7:30am to 3pm.

Future Prospects

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, there will be a full-time position available for the right person depending on experience. There are opportunities for career progression within Gurney Reeve.

Training Information

Training will be with us – Swarm REAGIT. The successful candidate will work towards the Level 2 General Welder Qualification, this apprenticeship will take 12 months to complete with assessments.

All apprentices taking part in the level 2 General Welder Standard will spend 6 weeks at the Swarm REAGIT centre in Norwich. During this time of intensive training, the apprentice will develop basic skills in:

• Health and Safety and workshop behaviours
• Hand tools and traditional welding techniques
• Working with and understanding technical documentation.
• Welding skill development in 2 different welding processes (MIG, TIG or MMA)

The apprentice will then attend the site 1 day per week for 16 weeks to complete the technical element of the apprenticeship.
