MacTaggart Scott is currently seeking an experienced Electrical Supervisor to join our team. Reporting directly to the Production Assembly Manager, this role requires a proactive individual who can work with minimal supervision. A key focus of the position is to coordinate the workload within the electrical departments, providing both leadership and hands-on technical support to ensure delivery, cost, and quality targets are consistently met.

An essential part of the role will be building and developing a strong electrical team, including mentoring apprentices and supporting their progression into skilled tradespeople. A detailed list of responsibilities and tasks are provided below.

In supporting the Production Assemble Manager the Electrical Supervisor will:

  • Have effective communication and line management of direct reports, demonstrated through levels of motivation in the team and high quality output.
  • They will liaise with design/development and any other necessary functions to ensure speedy resolution and minimum disruption to production schedule.
  • They will demonstrate effective communication and input into knowledge transfer.
  • Identify deficiencies, work along with Production Assembly Manager and implement measures to improve.
  • Adherence to procedures and quality standards – document, maintain, communicate and check understanding.
  • Show commitment to team and own personal and professional development as a means to develop and maintain skills.
  • Develop a culture of continuous improvement, working with management team, supervisors, team leaders and shop personnel to improve quality and efficiency while reducing costs and production lead times

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Being the point of contact for electricians and planning for day to day workload/priority issues in the Electrical Department.
  • Being the point of Contact for technical problems or quality issues arising from the electrical department after the team has exhausted all options.
  • Reviewing all production processes in line with the work to list/customer schedule, engineering drawings and best practice guidance, whilst at all times considering health and safety, COSHH and quality regulations
  • Liaise and communicate with electrical design team and other departments as necessary building strong working relationships across the business
  • Ensuring good housekeeping i.e. promote a clean safe working environment/tidy workstations, wearing of PPE
  • Assist Production Assembly Manager with training needs analysis to develop appropriate levels of skills and flexibility within the department.
  • Continually look for ways in which to improve processes.
  • Problem solving and planning to achieve goals and meet department targets
  • Responsible for grievances, disciplinary, absence management and leave requests, refer to HR for guidance.
  • Assist with the electrical workload (Hands on) when required.
  • Mentor apprentices to ensure they receive they required training and knowledge transfer.

Essential:

• Time served and experienced Electrician.

• Supervisor experience.

• Man Management Training.

• Effective relationship skills with internal staff/external suppliers.

• Excellent knowledge of electrical systems

• Interpret engineering drawings/models.

• Excellent communication skills.

• Knowledge of PLC control systems, fault finding, programming.

• Knowledge of electric motors and starters and an understanding of variable speed drives.

• Ability to interpret electrical and mechanical, drawings and documents.

• Time Served Electrician

• 18th Edition qualification

• HNC qualified

• Familiar with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)

Desirable:

• Understanding of hydraulic systems

• Experience with surface ship and submarine systems, or electrical / control equipment within a marine environment

• HND Qualification
