Job Title:

HVAC Supervisor - INTERNAL POSTING FOR CURRENT KSU EMPLOYEES ONLY 

Physical Location:

 Kent Campus - Kent, OH 

Salary:

 $21.61 per hour

Basic Function:

Functions as a working supervisor over HVAC Technicians; performs skilled installation, repair and preventive maintenance on air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating equipment; assists the HVAC Superintendent. Reports to HVAC Superintendent.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

Functions as a working supervisor over HVAC Technicians and other classified, temporary or student employees engaged in HVAC activities and assists the HVAC Superintendent.

- Trains and instructs employees on proper work procedures and policies.

- Communicates and enforces policies and procedures; resolves problems; addresses employee concerns and complaints.

- Assigns and monitors work activities.

- Coordinates work flow and schedule to ensure deadlines are met, priorities are recognized, and policies/procedures are followed.

- Participates in the interviewing and selection of job applicants and the performance evaluation of assigned employees; may recommend personnel actions (e.g., hiring, termination, promotion, discipline, layoff/recall).

Repairs air conditioning and heating units and systems, refrigeration systems, pneumatic controls, pumps, fans, and motors; periodically overhauls air conditioning and heating systems.

Installs air conditioning (both window and central systems) and heating units; installs piping, pipe cover insulation, pumps, motors, and refrigeration systems.

Periodically inspects, tests, and diagnoses air conditioning, refrigeration and heating systems, performing preventive maintenance such as: cleaning or changing filters, lubricating motors, tightening belts in order to ensure serviceable condition of the systems; checking for needed repairs and compliance with technical orders, blueprints, specifications, handbooks and established procedures.

Drives vehicle to pick up and deliver personnel and materials.

Assists with monitoring inventory; initiates paperwork to purchase materials, supplies and equipment.

Performs designated functions of HVAC Superintendent in his/her absence.

Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent plus completion of 12 to 18 months formal training in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (or equivalent training or experience which provides comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities). A minimum of four years skilled HVAC installation, repair and troubleshooting.

License/Certification:

Valid Ohio driver's license with safe driving record.Must possess current Universal Certification if position requires servicing of all types of refrigeration equipment.

Knowledge Of:

HVAC technology
Appropriate safety practices

Skill In:

Interpersonal communication to effectively interact with University personnel and public in person and over the telephone (e.g., to transmit work directives, to exchange information about needed repairs)
Repair and maintenance of air conditioning and heating units and systems
Use and care of hand and power tools and equipment
Soldering

Ability To:

Diagnose problems and take appropriate actions
Train and provide effective work direction to other employees
Manage time effectively and set priorities
Carry out or assist in implementing changes
Interpret and apply blueprints and schematic diagrams
Understand a variety of technical manuals
Maintain accurate records
Perform mathematics associated with trade applications
Demonstrate physical dexterity and lift 100 pounds
Work in high places, tunnels, and crawl spaces
May require ability to repair and maintain absorption refrigeration chillers and absorption systems
May require ability to operate computerized equipment

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

Exposed to dust, dirt, loud equipment noise, heights, electricity, potentially dangerous equipment (e.g., fan belts), and variable temperatures and weather conditions; requires moderate physical exertion to include frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds (e.g., valves and motors) and occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds (e.g., air conditioners), climbing ladders, and extended periods of bending, stooping, and standing; may work varied hours and shifts to include occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays; may be called to work in emergency situations; requires on-campus travel.

Working Schedule:

 Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; however, schedule may vary to meet departmental needs.
