Job Description

DR Newitt Engineering & Manufacturing are currently recruiting Time-Served Mechanical Fitters for a well-established engineering and manufacturing business in Glasgow.

We are recruiting for multiple positions within Mechanical Assembly and Testing, offering an excellent opportunity for experienced Mechanical Fitters from a range of engineering backgrounds.

The roles involve hands-on mechanical work with complex industrial equipment, with opportunities available across both assembly and testing.

The Opportunity

As a Mechanical Fitter, you will work as part of an experienced engineering team, carrying out a range of mechanical assembly, fitting, dismantling and testing activities.

The roles offer variety and the opportunity to work on complex mechanical equipment within a highly established engineering environment.

Depending on your experience and skill set, your responsibilities may include:

  • Mechanical assembly of industrial equipment.
  • Building and dismantling equipment for new and aftermarket requirements.
  • Working from engineering drawings, specifications and work instructions.
  • Mechanical fitting, alignment and installation.
  • Preparing equipment for testing.
  • Supporting commissioning and performance testing.
  • Setting up and dismantling test equipment.
  • Identifying and reporting mechanical or quality issues.
  • Carrying out self-inspection and completing relevant documentation.
  • Working with tooling and assembly equipment.
  • Supporting maintenance activities where required.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Working across different areas of the manufacturing operation.
  • Supporting colleagues and apprentices where appropriate.
  • Potential opportunities for customer site work depending on the position.

 

Who We're Looking For

We are interested in speaking with Time-Served Mechanical Fitters with a strong practical engineering background.

Your experience could come from a variety of sectors, including:

  • Mechanical Assembly
  • Heavy Engineering
  • Manufacturing

  • Rotating Equipment
  • Mechanical Fitting
  • Industrial Machinery
  • Testing and Commissioning
  • Maintenance and Repair

A recognised 4-year mechanical apprenticeship is required.

Experience with pumps, rotating equipment, mechanical assembly, alignment or testing would be advantageous, although we are open to candidates with strong transferable mechanical fitting experience.

Working Hours & Overtime

The standard working week is 37 hours:

Monday to Thursday: 7:45am–4:15pm
Friday: 7:45am–11:45am

There are opportunities for overtime when workload permits, providing the potential to increase your overall earnings.

There is also the possibility of moving onto a shift pattern, which can offer a shift premium, additional overtime and a 3-day weekend.

Requirements

  • Time-Served Mechanical Fitter.
  • Recognised 4-year mechanical apprenticeship.
  • Relevant mechanical engineering experience.
  • Valid Right to Work in the UK.
  • Ability to obtain Security Clearance up to SC level.
