The primary purpose of this role is to ensure the monomer plant is operated safely and efficiently following the agreed S&OP production plan. This role will coordinate the daily activities of the Monomer Day team and AME (site contractors). The person successful in this role will be required to step up for the Plant Manager in their absence.

In addition, this role will coordinate training of new operators, shippers, and lab analyst.

Job Responsibilities

The following responsibilities are associated with this job role but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for day to day supervision of the plant ensuring production follows the S&OP plan whilst also ensuring that safety, environmental and quality standards are met during operation and maintenance activities.
  • Coordinates maintenance activities on plant with Maintenance planner.
  • Coordinates plant outages with engineering, maintenance, and S&OP.
  • Review plant operating practice and procedures and implement changes where necessary.
  • Address and resolve customer complaints in a timely manner.
  • Audit operator performance for compliance with safety and procedural requirements.
  • Occasional periods of out of normal hours and shift work for supporting plant operations, shutdowns or commissioning new processes. Including participation in call-in system.
  • Act as incident controller when required.
  • Mentor the apprentices through the apprenticeship program.
  • Work closely with the plant engineer to push through continuous improvement projects and operator suggested improvements.
  • There is interaction on a regular basis with other manufacturing managers and teams, purchasing and Supply Chain functions.
  • Authority to purchase operational items <£10K
  • Authority to sanction operations personnel costs. i.e. overtime, costs etc

Qualifications and DESIRED SKILLS

  • The job holder must have a minimum of HNC / HND in Chemical Engineering or a similar engineering discipline combined with relevant experience working in a production environment.  Alternatively, 5 - 10 years’ minimum experience in complex plant operations.
  • To have demonstrated the ability to lead and motivate.
  • Must be an effective communicator with the ability to present technical information to a wide variety of audiences.
  • Proven experience with high risk permit to work systems and risk assessment.
  • Strong technical understanding of chemical plants and processes.
  • Demonstrates commitment to process and systems improvement initiatives as both an individual contributor and by influencing others
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Email, competence in using SAP is a plus
