As our Net Store Manager, you’ll be at the helm of developing, designing and producing fishing equipment, moorings and wires that meet the highest industry standards. This role demands both technical expertise and operational leadership, ensuring that every product is engineered for strength, durability and reliability in challenging marine environments.
You will be a member of the Engineering Group whose responsibility centres around the provision of specialist engineering services, underwater observation and net-rigging services to support the needs of scientific colleagues and collaborators, contributing to inform the Marine Directorate policy development process. Our qualified engineers undertake the design, construction and operation of custom-built equipment, applying their expertise in the application and fabrication of fishing gear, electronic and mechanical systems.
ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities
- Liaise with scientific staff and updating them on equipment availability and work progression.
- Use a range of Net Rigging skills to design, manufacture or modify fishing gears, moorings and wires set out in net drawings or plans provided, ensuring quantities and completion dates are met as specified within the issued job sheet.
- Manufacture goods that have no specific drawings or instructions, discussing the job originator/designated person before and during manufacture to ensure the goods meet the required needs, ensuring quantities and completion dates are met as specified within the issued job sheet.
- Service goods as specified either by Manufacturer, job originator/designated person, recording any changes modification that may take place and updating any spreadsheets for future reference, ensuring quantities and completion dates are met as specified within the issued job sheet.
- Liaise with RV and commercial fishing vessel masters. Issuing various items of ships chandlery and hardware as required for scientific cruises and field trips.

Working pattern
Our standard hours are 35 hours per week and we offer a range of flexible working options depending on the needs of the role. From October 2025, the Scottish Government will require staff in hybrid-compatible roles to work in-person 40% of the time, either in an office or other agreed work location.
