About the Role

Wood is seeking experienced Shutdown Pipe Welders to support a planned outage based onsite in Teesside.

This is a hands-on role suited to highly skilled welders with proven experience working within fast-paced shutdown environments, carrying out high-quality welding on critical plant equipment and piping systems. Particular emphasis is placed on experience welding boiler tubes, pressure systems, and high-integrity pipework using TIG and MMA welding processes.

Candidates must be safety-focused, quality-driven, and comfortable working in demanding environments, including confined spaces and at height, while delivering work to tight shutdown schedules.



Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out high-quality TIG and MMA welding on carbon and stainless-steel pipework.
  • Perform welding activities during planned shutdowns, turnarounds, and outage campaigns.
  • Weld and repair boiler tubes, superheater tubes, pressure parts, and associated pipework.
  • Complete maintenance, replacement, and repair work on critical plant systems.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, weld procedures, and technical specifications.
  • Ensure all welding activities comply with project quality requirements and inspection standards.
  • Work safely within permit-controlled environments, including confined spaces and working at height.
  • Support pressure system repairs and modifications during shutdown periods.
  • Maintain welding equipment and consumables to a high standard.
  • Adhere to all site safety rules, procedures, and risk control measures


Qualifications

About You

You are an experienced Pipe Welder with a strong background in industrial shutdowns, power generation, energy, petrochemical, or heavy process environments. You have proven experience welding boiler tubes and high-integrity pipework and can consistently produce work to the highest quality standards under demanding outage schedules.

Essential Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Pipe Welder supporting shutdowns, outages, or turnaround projects.
  • Extensive TIG and MMA welding experience on carbon and stainless-steel pipework.
  • Demonstrable experience welding and repairing boiler tubes and pressure systems.
  • Experience working on high-integrity pipework within industrial or energy facilities.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, welding procedures, and specifications.
  • Confined Space and Working at Height experience.
  • Strong commitment to health, safety, and quality standards.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplined shutdown team.
  • Flexible approach to working hours, including overtime, weekends, and night shifts where required.
