Small Works Manager - Electrical
Heated Mechanical ServicesAn excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced electrical professional to join a growing electrical contractor as a Small Works Manager, based from Coulsdon and working across London and the South East.
The business operates across electrical installations, fit-out, testing, inspection and compliance, delivering works within commercial, occupied and security-sensitive environments.
This role will take responsibility for the smaller projects and works packages, typically valued up to £50,000, managing them from the initial client enquiry and site survey through pricing, delivery, completion and final handover.
This would suit either an established Small Works Manager or an experienced electrician/supervisor who has been running and pricing their own jobs and is looking to make the next step into management.
The RoleYou will take ownership of multiple small electrical projects at different stages, combining estimating, client management and project delivery.
Typical responsibilities will include:
- Attending client sites to carry out surveys and establish the scope of required works.
- Producing quotations and pricing electrical works up to approximately £50,000.
- Pricing from site surveys, specifications and electrical drawings.
- Planning labour, materials, access requirements and project programmes.
- Coordinating electricians, engineers, subcontractors and suppliers.
- Managing several live projects simultaneously and ensuring works remain on programme.
- Monitoring project costs and protecting commercial margin throughout delivery.
- Identifying, pricing and agreeing variations with clients.
- Ordering materials and coordinating deliveries to site.
- Liaising directly with clients, main contractors and other stakeholders.
- Managing works within occupied and live commercial environments where disruption needs to be carefully controlled.
- Ensuring works are completed safely and to the required quality standards.
- Managing projects through completion, certification and final handover.
Due to the nature of the client base, some projects will require evening or weekend working. Any out-of-hours work will be paid as overtime in addition to the basic salary.
The successful candidate will ideally be a time-served electrician who has progressed into supervising, pricing or managing their own electrical works.
You should have:
- City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3 Electrical qualification.
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations – C&G 2382.
- ECS/JIB Gold Card.
- Strong commercial electrical installation experience.
- Experience within environments such as commercial offices, fit-out, banking, data centres or similar.
- The ability to survey a job and produce an accurate quotation.
- Experience pricing electrical works from drawings and specifications.
- Previous experience supervising, managing or taking ownership of your own jobs.
- Good commercial awareness, particularly around labour, materials, variations and project margin.
- The ability to manage several smaller projects simultaneously.
- Strong organisation and planning skills.
- Confidence dealing directly with clients.
- Full UK driving licence.
Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:
- Commercial fit-out and refurbishment.
- Occupied or live working environments.
- Security-sensitive or security-cleared sites.
- SSSTS or SMSTS.
- SimPro or similar job management software.
- IPAF and/or PASMA.
Previous experience with the job title Small Works Manager or Contracts Manager is not essential.
