Overview:

MacTaggart Scott are looking to recruit a Welding and Fabrication Manager to oversee and manage all Production Welding and Fabrication activities. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to not only take care of the day to day running of the department but will be given the autonomy to drive development and improvement within the area. The role holder will play an important part in the success of Welding and Fabrication at MacTaggart Scott as well as the success of the business.

Role:

The role will oversee all Welding and Fabrication activities. Key aspects of this will be to ensure that Safety and Quality are maintained throughout the Fabrication and Welding process. The role holder will promote a forward thinking, continuous improvement culture and will be a key figure for management and leadership within the area. Key outputs will include Delivery of Welding and Fabrication tasks on time, to budget and to specification, Health and Safety compliance, Continuous improvement activities and Department adherence to company and customer standards.

Duties will include:

· Direct line management for Welding and Fabrication.

· Technical and Operational Leadership for day-to-day activities and long-term planning.

· Close collaboration with inspection, sub-contractors and other business functions.

· Support to process development and surveillance.

· Leading a team of both experienced Fabricators and Welders while managing a successful apprenticeship program for Welding and Fabrication.

· Ensuring department adherence and compliance with business policies and procedures.

· Ensuring department adherence and compliance with all Health and Safety policies and procedures.

· Ensure department adherence and compliance with industry and customer standards. (ISO, DEF-STAN, BS EN, NAVSEA etc.)

· Promoting a forward thinking, continuous improvement culture.

· Managing and Maintaining Department measures.

Essential skills, experience and knowledge requirements:

The successful candidate must:

· Minimum 3 Years experience in a similar management/ supervisory role.

· Have experience of reading engineering/technical drawings and documentation.

· Clear understanding of welding/ welder codes and standards.

· Have a mindset that promotes health and safety.

· Have excellent communication and organisational skills.

· Be flexible and adaptable to change.

· Be self-motivated with a good work ethic and attention to detail is essential.

· Experienced in the use of Microsoft packages.

· Be a time served welder or similar having served a recognised Apprenticeship.

· Hold and NC, HNC or HND in a relevant Engineering Discipline

Advantageous but not essential:

· Experience in a low volume high value manufacturing setting.

· Experience of working within a defence standard’s environment.

· Membership of a professional body TWI, IET, IMechE

· Experience in Welding Inspection/ QA roles.

· Experience of ERP systems and Welding Qualification software.

· CSWIP Inspection Qualifications.

· ILM Leadership Qualifications

· TWI Diploma Qualifications

· Engineering Degree
