Overview:

As part of an exciting opportunity Mactaggart Scott are seeking a Welding Inspector to join the team. Based in the Welding Department, the Welding Inspector will ensure that all welding at the pre, during and post welding stages is conducted in accordance with the applicable drawing standards and company procedures. They will also carry out dimensional checks, pre, during and post welding and carry out Non-Destructive Testing processes during and post welding operations. Moderate Supervision is required for this role with the role reporting to the Chief Inspector.

Key Responsibilities will include:

In supporting the Chief Inspector the duties of Welding Inspector will include but are not limited to:

Pre Weld

  • Check / review all relevant documentation.
  • Applicable standards / code for visual acceptance requirement.
  • Drawings – item details and position / tolerance etc.
  • Quality control procedures.
  • Process / QC inspection plans etc.
  • WPS requirements.
  • Welder qualification.
  • Check all consumables (including storage, distribution and usage)
  • Check parent material, dimensions and condition.
  • Preheating, method and temperature.
  • Check fit and set up.
  • Ensure no undue stress is applied to the joint.
  • Check environment for cross contamination.
  • Check welding equipment and calibration.

During Weld

  • Check WPS Parameter compliance and correct heat input.
  • Compliance with welding process / WPs.
  • Ensure the correct technique, run sequence.
  • Check runout lengths, time lapses.
  • Cleaning between passes.
  • Inter-pass temperatures.
  • Dimensional accuracy.
  • Consumable control.
  • Oversee weld records.
  • In process Inspection sign off.

Post Weld

  • Post cleaning.
  • Visual Inspection of completed weld joint.
  • Check weld contour and width.
  • Review PWHT.
  • Dimensional accuracy.
  • Review weld records.
  • Monitor and document any rework / repairs for compliance to procedure etc.

Non-destructive Testing

  • Perform NDT test on materials, welds and components.
  • Interpret and evaluate results to detect indications and provide a written report.
  • Select appropriate NDT methods and equipment base on the quality procedures and drawings.
  • Ensure all equipment is calibrated and maintenance checks are in date.
  • Follow safety protocols during testing, especially when handling and discarding hazardous consumables.

Essential:

The right candidate must hold a valid CSWIP 3.1 Welding Inspector Certificate.

  • Have excellent communication skills and confidence in dealing with internal customers and departments.
  • Have a methodical and organized work ethic in order to prioritise workload, whilst setting and meeting deadlines on a weekly basis.
  • Have ability to work both on your own and as part of a team.
  • Have a good working knowledge of Micros Soft Office
  • Must hold PCN level 2 MPI & DPI certificates
  • Have excellent communication skills and confidence in dealing with internal customers and departments.
  • Have a methodical and organised work ethic in order to prioritise workload, whilst setting and meeting deadlines on a weekly basis.
  • Have ability to work both on your own and as part of a team.
  • Have a good working knowledge of Micros Soft Office

Desirable:

  • Experience as a Weld Inspector
  • Experience as a Welder
  • Holds or has previously held American Welding Inspection qualifications.
  • Previous NDT experience

The successful candidate must hold or be able to meet the appropriate Security Clearance as required.
