Job Overview

Avail is seeking skilled and detail-oriented Shipyard Painters to join our team. This role is crucial in maintaining and restoring naval and commercial vessels, ensuring they meet strict industry and safety standards. The ideal candidate will have experience in surface preparation, painting, and corrosion control within a shipyard or industrial setting.  MUST HAVE CURRENT DBIDS IN HAND FOR NAVAL STATION NORFOLK (NOB).

Key Responsibilities

• Surface Preparation: Use needle guns, grinders, sandblasters, and other tools to remove rust, old paint, and debris from ship surfaces.
• Painting & Coating: Apply primers, sealants, and protective coatings using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment.
• Corrosion Control: Identify and treat areas affected by corrosion, ensuring long-term durability and compliance with industry standards.
• Equipment & Material Handling: Properly mix and apply paints and coatings while maintaining and cleaning tools and workspaces.
• Safety & Compliance: Follow strict shipyard safety protocols, including proper PPE use and adherence to OSHA, NAVSEA, and maritime regulations.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Previous experience as a shipyard painter preferred.
• Ability to operate power tools, needle guns, and grinders efficiently.
• Knowledge of surface preparation techniques, coating applications, and corrosion prevention methods.
• Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs., work in confined spaces, and stand for extended periods.
• Current DBIDS credentials for access to naval and military facilities.
• OSHA 10 certification.
